Albany’s natural landforms and expansive views over the deep, sheltered waters of Mammang-Koort/ King George Sound and smaller inner harbour, gave it strategic importance as a defensive port.

Albany was crucial to the Australian coastal defence system during two world wars, being the departure point for two convoys of transports carrying Australian and New Zealand troops to the First World War at the end of 1914 and as a United States submarine base in 1942.

Albany is one of the few, if not the only place in the world where evidence exists of pelagic, bay and shore-based whaling practices.  Whaling had been a lucrative industry in Albany. In the mid 1900s and the Cheyne Beach Whaling Company began its operations at Frenchman Bay, continuing until November 1978 when it made history as the last whaling station to close in Australia.

Today Albany offers students beauty, history and a stunning location to explore the regions highlights, including the Poronganups and the Stirling ranges

Adventure and Culture

This camp offers a mix of learning and adventure and a nice balance between the two.

There are many options available for this 4-5 Day adventure with return transfers available from Perth and the South West. Multiple activity options including some of the following:

Water based and Land based adventure activities are available, including but not limited to: Canoeing, Raft Making, Archery, Geocaching.

A range of guided bush walks in some of the regions best areas from beginner to advanced with distances varying from 2-20km. (Note: The Bald Head walk and Granite Skywalk are for those of Intermediate and advanced level)

Cultural visits can include the National Anzac Centre, Princess Royal Fortress, Mount Clarence memorial, Whaling station and National Wildlife Park.
